Wayne State University

Hamilton Anderson collaborated with Wayne State University and the University’s housing partner, Corvias, to provide full design services for a much-needed new student housing project on Anthony Wayne Drive in Midtown Detroit. The project includes a mix of studio, one-, two-, and four-bedroom apartment styles for sophomores and juniors, and it helps the University meet the growing demand for on-campus student housing. The project also includes 30,000 square feet of retail along Anthony Wayne Drive, which will provide goods and services to both University and community users.

The Seven Hills School

The project will create three, grade-level common areas in the Middle School and increase the size of the Middle School from 22,950 square feet to 35, 625 square feet. Existing classrooms and lab spaces will be renovated and doubled in size to promote flexible seating. The Innovation Lab will also double in size and have increased student capacity. The design, created by frequent HGC partner SHP, will support the exploratory approach to learning that The Seven Hills School is known for. It will place each grade strategically on similar floors. It will also create common gathering spaces for each grade, supporting the “community within a community” concept.

RMAX ECOMAXci® Wall Solution for the Seven Hills Middle School project was seamless from start to finish. Thanks to Ben Pedersen for being available and on top of his game to get all the information we needed to get this job complete!

It is a state-of-the-art facility that can accommodate 1,750 students in grades 9-12. The Architect on this project, Corgan Inc., specified Rmax Durasheath® over the entire envelope of this building for continuous insulation. Durasheath® met the design needs to complete this project smoothly and on time.

Hamlin Robinson Middle School

Hamlin Robinson School has been at the forefront of serving students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences for almost 40 years. In June of 2019, the HRS Board of Trustees voted to build a new middle school with an expanded learning center on the property. The new building is scheduled to open for the 2022-23 school year.

The Architect on this project, NAC Architecture, used Rmax ECOMAXci® Wall Solution over the entire building envelope incorporating different claddings throughout. NAC Architecture has long been a strong proponent of Rmax and the ECOMAXci® Wall Solution.

“With Rmax’s ECOMAXci® FR Air Barrier Wall Solution providing a full water and air barrier, we were able to attach directly to the framing and eliminate exterior gypsum and additional WRB. The cost savings was substantial.”

Rmax Project Profile -UC Merced.jpg

university of California, Merced - Merced, California: ecomaxci® FR

Rmax was proud to be asked by California Drywall Company to work with them and the design and construction team (including Webcor, SOM, WRNS Studio, HOK, Page Sutherland Page Architects, SGH Consultants, and others) to find an exterior insulation that could act not only as the thermal barrier, but could also be part of the air and weather-resistive barrier. ECOMAXci® FR (formerly known as TSX-8500) was the answer the team found. As a bonus, the exterior gypsum originally in the plans and specifications was able to be value-engineered out of much of the job, saving the project team a significant amount of time, labor, and material while still meeting NFPA 285 requirements.

One cost-saving feature implemented into the project was the use of Rmax ECOMAXci® Wall Solution. Coast Building Products, the insulation contractor, worked with their local Rmax representative to show the design and construction team that the ECOMAXci® System could help eliminate much of the exterior sheathing and full coverage weather-resistive barriers, as well as the accompanying labor. Huge cost savings over more traditional exterior assemblies. With the ECOMAXci® Wall Solution, Twelve Bridges High School has an NFPA 285 approved next-generation thermal, air, and weather-resistive barrier.

Ernest Righetti High School - Santa Maria, California: Thermasheath®

The original specification for this project called for an XPS insulation. This product was very difficult to obtain and had lead time issues that would have put the project significantly behind schedule. Tarlton & Son, Inc. contacted Rmax to see if they had a product that could meet the performance requirements of the XPS insulation. After reviewing the materials, Rachlin Architects was impressed with the energy performance of Thermasheath®, and were also pleased to note its superior fire resistance.

San Ramon Valley High School -Danville, California: ECOMAXci® FR Air Barrier

Level 5, Inc., used ECOMAXci® FR Air Barrier as the continuous insulation on this project not only for the fact that polyiso insulation provides the highest R-value per inch of any continuous insulation available, but also because of its superior performance as an air and weather resistive barrier. ECOMAXci® FR Air Barrier was also able to be applied directly to the metal studs without the need of exterior gypsum to meet NFPA 285 requirements.
